Library Leak

Library Leak

Over the past several weeks it has been hard not to notice tarps draped over books and a garbage pail filled with water located in the back of the library. The cause for caution was from a hole in the roof that was allowing outside moisture to leak in and drip on the books below.

Campus Buildings and Grounds Superintendent Mike Riemer says: "The flashing (weatherproofing) was from 1978 when the library was built and is not as durable as the flashing nowadays. It can deteriorate from the sun like an inner-tube left out in summer…it stretches apart and rips."

Over spring break Langer Roofing visited the campus to patch the leak and to look at a total of eight to ten other ceiling tiles around campus that needed to be re-flashed. Last week Langer Roofing came back to campus to place a permanent fix on the leak and to re-flash the ceiling tiles. "The price of the permanent fix was around $1,250 and was paid for by the Waukesha County operating budget," Riemer said. "I was very pleased with Langer Roofing. I have worked with them on other projects and knew they would do a good job."

According to Mike Reimer, no books were damaged from the leak in the library.
