5 Recipes for Cold Weather

1) Chili
1 pound beef
1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
2 cans (16 ounces each) kidney beans, raised and drained
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
½ to ¾ cup water
1 to 2 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
a) In a large saucepan, cook beef and onion over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink, then drain.

Charity reaps rewards

The clothing drive that was held on campus was sponsored by New Horizons and PTK, during Nov. 9 - 13, received immense support from students and staff. About 25 garbage bags, full of much needed clothes, were collected and dropped off at Waukesha's Hebron House, which shelters and assists the homeless.

Counseling available to combat finals stress

A little known service that UW-Waukesha provides is counseling services. Counselor Amy Walker is available to all students in the Study Center Mondays - Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Amy Walker has been connecting with college students since 2003 and has enjoyed being a support system when they have no one to fall back on.

Man being charged with UW-Waukesha grads murder appears in court

The man being charged in the stabbing death of former UW-Waukesha student Samantha Peterson, 21, appeared in court on Thursday Dec. 10 for a status hearing. David A. Wapp, 29, has pleaded not guilty by reason of mental defect. At the beginning of the hearing, Wapp was brought in by sheriffs in a full restraint chair.

Upcoming Changes for UW Waukesha

During a regular visit to UW Colleges, Chancellor David Wilson described many issues with a few students. One subject touched upon was textbook rentals. Wilson suggested a rental program that would be saving students hundreds of dollars every semester if books were rented and not just sold.

While on campus, UW-Waukesha's community of Wi-Fi users should have noticed a difference in their wireless experience. An e-mail was sent out on Nov. 19 that clearly stated, there would now be a new policy in place when attempting to access wireless internet.

Keeping the Ball Rolling

The UW-Waukesha Men's basketball team started off the season strong and continue to play that way. The Cougars are currently 3-1 in conference and 5-1 overall this season, including winning in their last game over UW-Manitowoc 78-65. Leading the way was freshman sensation Jon Osgood who had 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Field Film Fest is a community wide collaboration between UW-Waukesha, Firestarter Films, and Rex Sikes' Movie Beat. The idea behind this collaboration is to unite the Brookfield/Waukesha area with the city of Milwaukee by inviting many of the artists and filmmakers from the city out into the "fields" of Waukesha County.
